Facilities and Services
All the rooms in Graduate House are
- air-conditioned and are provided with basic furniture,
- a fridge (mainly two-compartment fridge with a freezer)
- wired and wireless network connection
Every two single rooms
- share a bathroom while double rooms / large rooms have self-contained bathrooms.
Two floors share
- a common student lounge with pantry facility
Full time postgraduate students of HKU, including the following categories, are eligible for applying for admission:
- New Non-local Research Postgraduate Students
- New Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPF) Awardees
- New HKU Presidential PhD Scholarship (HKU-PS) Awardees
- Other eligible full-time postgraduate students

Contract Duration
Offer of residential membership to a successful applicant is for one residential year. Continued residence is subject to result of application for re-admission.
Offer of residence include 2 semesters + summer semester. Residents are required to commit to stay by semester. Lodging fees committed are non-refundable.
Lodging fee for the entire semester will be charged even though a resident withdraws before the semester is over. A resident can apply for withdrawal one month in advance to the start of the next semester in order not to be charged for the relevant lodging fee.
Addition Charges
Security deposit
In addition to the monthly rental, residents are also required to pay a security deposit according to their room type. After a resident checks out of Graduate House, the deposit will be refunded to the resident after deducting any outstanding charges incurred within the resident period.
Electricity expense
Rental charge do not include electricity expense, which is to be charged according to the actual amount of electricity consumed by the residents and the latest tariff rates set by the Hong Kong Electric Company Limited and the current minimum charge each month is HK$43.70 irrespective of which day of the month the resident moves in.
Both rental and electricity charges plus any other miscellaneous charges are settled on monthly basis. A monthly statement for the payable charges will be issued to each resident.
Stay
Early arrival and extension of stay are subject to the availability of rooms.
Offer of rooms
Successful applicants must provide proof of academic registration before rooms could be offered.
All rooms are allocated to successful applicants on a random basis by the Graduate House Office.
Residents may be required to relocate to other rooms on need basis.
Withdrawal policy
The first month’s lodging fee is non-refundable under any circumstances. For the months thereafter, a ONE-month advance notice of withdrawal, which is also non-refundable for the notice period, will be required.
